The Captain of Rossmore Golf for 2016 is Mr Maurice McBirney who drove into office on New Years Day. In this historic year for the club it is fitting in many ways that the Captain is a native of County Armagh,  Maurice resides in Keady and is one of a number of golfers at the club from that area of Armagh. Maurice follows in the footsteps of a number of his compatriots from Keady who have captained the club and he is a very popular and ambitious leader for the club.

Maurice is a member of Rossmore Golf Club for some 20 years and plays off a handicap of 12. His wife Agnes is also a member and a former Lady Captain as is his son Philip who currently plays off a 5 handicap.

Maurice is a successful business man and lists his hobbies as Golf, Football and Cycling. He is a keen footballer and still togs out in the Armagh over 50s soccer league while his cycling exploits has seen him take part in many charity tours. He has taken part in charity cycling tours taking in the Great Wall of China, Sahara Desert and crossed the Grand Canyon to name but a few of the places his bicycles has taken him.

Listing his ambitions and wishes for the year ahead Maurice states that he would like to see Rossmore continue to be a friendly place where family and friends are welcome and enjoy the hospitality and the great test that is Rossmore Golf course. In this the Centenary year Maurice wants everybody to participate and support the many events planned for the year be it on the golf course or one of the social events listed in the diary.

On the competitive side he hopes to see the club achieve success in one of the GUI All Ireland team competitions where he has high hopes for the Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell teams to name but two and with Richard Sleator guiding the youth members, Maurice hopes to see more young people take up the game of golf and go on to represent the club at the highest level in the sport.

Maurice looks forward with great hopes for the year ahead and with the support of the Lady Captain Eileen Kearns he is confident Rossmore will continue to prosper and that 2016 will be a memorable year for all the members.

All the members wish Maurice and Eileen the very best for the year ahead.
