Open Week Saturday 7th July Singles

On Saturday 7th July Rossmore Golf Club Open Week opened with a singles stableford competition and despite the recent inclement weather there was a big entry of both members and visitors. In First place and making a welcome return to the winners enclosure was Paddy Smyth with 40pts, second Darragh Meehan 38pts, 3rd Hugh Coll 36pts and the Gross was won by Sylvester Quinn 32pts.

Open Week Sunday 8th July Fourball Betterball.

Sunday’s Open Fourball Betterball competition was again well supported with scoring conditions very tough the winners Donal Guckian and James Corrigan posted an excellent score of 43pts. Both are in fine form and could well feature again during the week.

Second on 42pts was Ronan Loughran and Kieran McCaffrey and third also on 42pts was Cathal McGuinness and Jack Lee.

Monday Open Singles 18 + Handicap Competition

Monday Open Singles for 18+ Handicap players is a very popular competition during Open Week and proved to be highly competitive affair. We also saw a number of new names in the winners enclosure.

1st Kieran Lavelle 41pts, 2nd Kieran Donohue 40pts, 3rd Donal Gorman 37pts.

Winner of the 17 and under category was Seamus Salmon 41pts and the Gross went to Robbie Phillay 26pts.

Open Week Festival of Golf

Rossmore Open Week Festival of Golf continues to  Sunday 15th July and the good turn out of golfers to date is expected to continue wit a variety of competitions scheduled for the weekend. Entry fees set at €5 for members and €15 for visitors.

The highlight of Open Week for many members will be the 4 Person Club Classic scheduled for Saturday 14th July. This event is kindly sponsored by McElvaney Waste and Recycling. All members are asked to make a special effort to get a team together to support this fund raising event.  Following the golf players and friends will be able to enjoy a barbecue from 7.30pm with music to follow. Entry fee is €160 per team and this includes a ticket for the Barbecue.

This classic is open to members and visitors and a time sheet is in operation.

Inter Club Team News

The Ulster Cup team played away to Ballyclare last weekend and came away with 4 and a half matches. The return leg is on Sunday and captain Donal Guckian is hoping his tean can complete the job and scure a place in the Q/Finals.

The Pierce Purcell team travelled to Newtownstewart on Monday to take on Ballyliffin and  booked a place in the semi-finals of theUlstersection of this competition.with a great victory.

The Rossmore Cup team played Portadown away and the 2 – 2 draw will make Rossmore favourites to advance to the next round.

Despite a gallant display the Junior Cup team bowed out when the lost 3 – 2 to Letterkenny. Tied a 2 matches each the final match went to Letterkenny making Rossmore the unfortunate losers.
